Ngozi E. Nwaesei is Chair of the Firm’s Real Estate Practice Group. Ngozi's primary area of practice is real estate transactions, including, but not limited to: affordable housing developments; commercial leases; and real property acquisition and disposition. She has extensive experience in the negotiation and drafting of purchase agreements, development agreements, leases, option agreements, and other real estate related documents. In addition, she is also active in the area of public law and economic development and works extensively with the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, the City of Detroit Downtown Development Authority, The Economic Development Corporation of the City of Detroit and the City of Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. The diversity of her clients allows her to be involved in many projects that combine her legal expertise with her practical understanding of the economic development process. Ngozi is well versed in various public financing incentives and resources, including but not limited to, brownfield plans, tax increment financing, etc. She also advises her clients on the interpretation of several Michigan statutes, including but not limited to the Brownfield Redevelopment Financing Act (Act 381), Downtown Development Act (Act 197), Economic Development Corporations Act (Act 338), Corridor Improvement Act (Act 280), Open Meetings Act (Act 267) and the Freedom of Information Act (Act 442), etc.
