Karen Kendrick Brown is the Chair of the Firm’s Corporate Services and Public Law Practice Group. Karen’s primary practice areas are federal taxation focusing on issues relating to financial transactions involving state and local entities and public finance law. She has worked on transactions to provide financing for working capital, including deficit financing and funding for accrued unfunded pension liabilities, and capital projects such as hospitals, airport facilities, multi-family and single-family housing, improvements owned and used by 501(c) organizations, schools and various governmentally owned facilities including parking garages, water and sewer systems, stadia and entertainment facilities and various other types of public benefits. She has represented issuers in connection with audits by the Internal Revenue Service of bonds issued as tax-exempt obligations. Karen provides advice on the formation and operation of charitable organizations. She also has represented exempt organizations in controversies before the Internal Revenue Service.
