Lewis & Munday lawyer, Gary Kravitz, named to
Board of Regional Land Conservancy
Lewis & Munday attorney, Gary Kravitz of Farmington Hills, recently joined the Board of Trustees of the Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy, along with two other members, Susan Guenther of Beverly Hills and Jeffrey Kingzett of Pontiac.
"They share a passion for land conservation, but each adds a different set of skills, professional and volunteer experience to the 15-member conservancy board," said Board President Gail Danto of Bloomfield Hills.
Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy is a 20-year-old non-profit which conserves and cares for land in the Michigan counties of Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer and Genesee, in watersheds of the Clinton, Huron, Rouge, Flint, Shiawassee and Belle Rivers. The organization currently protects 1,154 acres through outright ownership, conservation easements or stewardship partnerships.
Kravitz is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and American Bar Association. He concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate, leasing and structuring business ventures, and also has a broad background in municipal law. Danto sees Kravitz's legal expertise, especially in the areas of real estate and municipal law, as an obvious asset to an organization whose sole mission is land protection.
"It is critical to secure ecologically significant parcels of land now," said Kravitz. "We're at a crossroads for awhile because the economy has slowed the race to build. This is our chance to protect some important natural areas so they'll be there for future generations."
Kravitz has served on the Farmington Hills Beautification Commission and is an active volunteer with the MS Society. He is strongly supported by his wife, Sara, who has been involved with a number of environmental organizations, including The Nature Conservancy and the Michigan Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life (Ml-COEJL). Kravitz first became aware of Six Rivers when the organization was running a "square foot" fundraiser to help purchase its Golden Preserve. He thought "how exciting to 'own' a little piece of such a beautiful spot!"
