Lewis & Munday 35th Anniversary Celebration
November, 2007
Lewis & Munday, P.C. recently celebrated its 35th Anniversary - a historic milestone uncommon in the tradition of African American enterprise. Held in the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History - the world's largest museum of African American history and culture - the October, 2007 event brought out local dignitaries, long-time supporters and clients, and employees both new and old to commemorate this momentous occasion.
Under the majestic dome of the Ford Freedom Rotunda, the relaxed environment coupled with the hors d'oeuvre s and four-star buffet catered by Brown Bag Catering was appreciated by all. It was a night filled with memorable speeches, emotional reunions and heart-felt sentiment highlighting the importance and relevance of Lewis & Munday in the community and the lasting legacy of its founding partners.
"It does not require an exhaustive review of American history to appreciate that there are not many African Americans who have founded private law firms that have lasted 35 years," said Reuben Munday of founding partner David Baker Lewis. "I think that the magnitude of that accomplishment deserves some reflection and attention."
It was not all ceremony, however. Once the speeches subsided and the hugs and hand-shakes slowed down, the merriment began as the crowd, led by both Messrs. Lewis and Munday, made its way to the dance floor. From the hustle, to ballroom and even the funky-chicken, the spirited party-goers danced the night away to the rhythmic sounds of Detroit's own, Notorious.
"We are painfully aware of how many outstanding lawyers in law firms we have in this community, and we don't take for granted all of your support and encouragement over these many years," said Munday. "Tonight is intended to be a small token of our appreciation for all of our many friends and colleagues, and our purpose here is to have some fun."
